Animal and Plant Quarantine
People who return from their oversea relocation and bring their pets back into Japan are required to pass the examinations at animal and plant quarantine office both in the previous country and Japan.
There are 3 ways to carry their pets, including dogs, cats, birds, and also plants, to take them into Japan.
・ Check in with other baggage at check-in counter at the airport
・ Carry as luggage to take on board
・ Send as unaccompanied baggage/cargo.
Any method mentioned above would require animal and plant quarantine and also passing the Customs in a country where people previously stayed and also in Japan. Make sure, when it comes to plants to check the requirements as to the quarantine procedures, since plants are often subject to the preparation of some additional approval documents. At the same time, each airline company sets different restrictions as to the rules of taking pets on board, so check their manuals before the departure.
